Beech The beech (Fagus sylvatica) was my first real love. If the oak is the king of the forest, the beech is its queen. As I mentioned in my introduction, this was the first tree I really experienced. I noticed its nurturing compassionate energy immediately. It was whilst I was teaching full-time in a school an hours drive away from my home, that the music of this tree came to me. Luckily, there was a lovely old beech in the school grounds that I used to go and sit by at lunch times and every other break I could. It was one such lunch time, one busy, hot summer's day that it felt like the right time to ask this tree for its wonderful song. It was strange though, because at first, it was very similar to a piece of music I had written a few years before. Not wanting to repeat myself, I did nothing more at that stage and went to a few more different beech trees. However, I found the same thing; the same feeling, key, and basic progression. Of course, other parts came from the different beeches, but the basic feeling of compassion and love remained. If you need these, then this is the tree for you.
